Transcribe video to text

Lectures, interviews, meetings, webinars and podcast episodes are all easier to search, quote and reuse as text. AutoSub transcribes the speech in your video or audio file and gives you an editor to check it against the recording before you export.

What you can transcribe

If you have several recordings, drop them together and work through them as a batch.

How to transcribe a video

  1. Open AutoSub. Go to autosub.isroot.in in Chrome or Edge. There is nothing to download, though you can install it as an app from the address bar if you'll use it often.
  2. Pick the spoken language. Choose the language people speak in the recording, or leave it on auto-detect. Picking it explicitly helps with short clips and heavy accents.
  3. Drop in your file. Drag your video or audio recording onto the page (or click to browse). AutoSub decodes it in the browser and uploads only compressed, speech-only audio for transcription. Sign in when asked; new accounts get 30 free minutes.
  4. Proofread against the recording. Read through the transcript in the editor. Clicking any line jumps the player to that moment so you can listen and correct it. Use find & replace for recurring names and terms.
  5. Export as text. Export TXT for a clean plain-text transcript, or SRT/VTT if you want the timestamps kept. You can export several formats from the same transcript.

Why AutoSub for transcription

Transcription services often charge per minute at rates that add up quickly, and many expect you to upload the entire video file. AutoSub decodes the video in your browser and uploads only compressed, speech-only audio, which is deleted within 24 hours. That means faster uploads for long recordings and your footage stays with you.

Pricing is simple: 30 free minutes when you sign up, then Pro at $9.99 a month for 1,000 minutes (about 1¢ a minute), Pro Annual at $79.99 a year, or a one-time 300-minute pack for $7 that never expires.

Frequently asked questions

How accurate is the transcription?

AutoSub uses Whisper large-v3-turbo, a widely used speech recognition model. Clear speech with little background noise usually transcribes very well; heavy music, crosstalk and strong accents reduce accuracy. Proofreading with click-to-seek is quick either way.

Can I get a transcript with timestamps?

Yes. Export SRT or VTT to keep a timestamp on every segment. Export TXT when you only want the words.

Does it work with audio-only files like podcasts and voice memos?

Yes. You can drop audio files as well as video. The process is the same.

Which languages are supported?

More than 40 spoken languages. Choose the language from the picker or let AutoSub detect it automatically. You can also translate the finished transcript into about 40 languages.

How long can the recording be?

Transcription is billed by minute of audio, so the practical limit is your minute balance: 30 free minutes on signup, 1,000 a month on Pro, or 300 with the one-time pack. Silent stretches are skipped before upload.
